LEGISLATION INTRODUCED TO EXPEDITE REMOVAL OF CONVICTED CRIMINALS

The government introduced stringent measures to expedite the removal of those convicted of serious crimes.  This is obviously a matter that will receive much attention, as many segments of the public perceive that Canada is "soft" on criminals, while others, probably from the left, will argue that the legislation is "Draconian". In my opinion, while some parts of the legislation are somewhat tough, the majority of the provisions make sense. There is no reason why those convicted in Canada of serious crimes should be allowed to delay their deportation by filing frivolous requests for consideration. This is especially true because convicted criminals had a chance to be heard in a court of law in Canada and plead their case, and also make submissions concerning sentencing.

I am somewhat disappointed that the government did not include victim impact statements at IAD hearings, since the IAD considers H&C grounds. The use of Canada as a safe heaven  for criminals seems to be over.See below:
