Bogus firms made Rs 2.9cr in 7 months

CHANDIGARH: Daljit Singh approached Shri Sai Kirpa Immigration Company, Sector 8, for going to Canada, but the firm cheated him, along with 19 others.

Daljit is not the only one to fall prey to bogus immigration firms. More than 80 people, especially youths, have become victims of fake travel agents, who have cheated them of around Rs 80 lakh in 2011. A total 36 cases of immigration fraud have been reported in the first 7 months against 45 cases of immigration fraud in the previous year. Data prepared by Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Chandigarh police reveals fake firms have duped people of Rs 2.9 crore.

Accused Neena Sharma, MD of the immigration company, has been booked four times for fraud and is absconding in two cases, said senior EOW inspector Kuldeep Singh. Similarly, five cases of fraud were registered against Shilpa Aggarwal of Sector 37.
