While I appreciate that the family is inadmissible for immigration purposes under IRPA, the non-trained observer will be dismayed at comparing this case with those routinely reported where career criminals are allowed to remain in Canada on "humanitarian and compassionate" grounds. This is a difficult pill for the public to swallow as it defies the notions of "proportionality" and "moral equivalency". But the law is sometimes unwieldy.
As for the applicants in the case below, next time better hire a lawyer who is a specialist in citizenship and immigration law.
