An Entrepreneurship Deficit in Canada?
Wait times for entrepreneur-class immigration applications have grown as long as eight years, and over the past decade, the number of successful applicants plummeted by 78 per cent, to 372 in 2009. The federal government recently ordered a suspension of the entrepreneur immigrant program as it tries to figure out how to cut wait times. Is this state of affairs contributing to our current deficit in entrepreneurship and innovation, preventing numerous qualified business people from coming to Canada and bringing their capital and business experience to our economy? BNN speaks with Immigration Minister Jason Kenney; Immigration lawyer Sergio Karas; and Catherine Swift, president, Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
