Many questions are being asked, back and forth. I suspect that there will be no answers and that, in the end, most of the boat migrants will be released and the government will give up, as usual, bowing to pressure from interest groups. They will blend into their community population and some of them will eventually be apprehended and deported in the future for other reasons. Most will simply declare victory, pass on the news back home and another ship will arrive, and the story will repeat itself. The government will not address the problem in a meaningful way as it is politically unacceptable to discuss the matter. We have seen this movie before.
My question is: What is the cost of this? How much does it cost to process, house, feed, detain, provide medical services, legal services, etc. to the migrants? Who pays for this? I think that the governments, federal and provincial, ought to disclose the costs to the public, so it cam make an informed decision concerning what governments should do in cases like this.
